Menstrual Disorder
Irregular periods typically refer to the number of days between cycles counting from day 1 of your period to day 1 of the next period. Day 1 is traditionally the first day of actual flow. It’s normal to have anywhere between 21 and 35 days between periods.
Your period is irregular if:
- It comes more frequently than 21 days
- The length of your cycles varies greatly (even if they are typically within the typical range of 21 to 35 days)
- You go 35 days or more between periods

Treatment for Irregular Periods
For the correct treatment for irregular periods, evaluating its cause is of extreme importance. In case the patient suffering from the irregular period is a teen, young adult, or someone between the age of 25-40, the first approach to treat her irregular periods is medications. Depending upon the age of the patient, the gynecologist may suggest birth control pills and hormone pills to regulate her periods. In case the irregular is occurring due to PCOS, the gynecologist will suggest regulating the periods with dietary and lifestyle habits and medicines. If a woman in her later 40s or 50s is suffering from irregular periods, and the phenomenon is affecting her normal life, the gynecologist may suggest her undergoing hysterectomy. The surgery includes removal of the female’s uterus and in some cases, also the ovaries. This treatment is suggested when all other methods of treating irregular periods fail.
